Reversed Boss Miniboss Order aka. RBMBO aka. Rambo is a heavily glitched category with the purpose of defeating all Bosses with the exception of Bomb Torizo in the reversed intended order. It is mostly considered a challenge category and currently only confirmed completed by very few runners with the ruleset below.

Rules
Generally speaking everything is allowed in this category. However there are three things that are banned:
*GT Code
*Spacetime Beam
*Artificial Varia Suit
The point of all those things being not allowed in this category is to not make the category too ordinary or easy. The ruleset is historically based on Foosda who developed the category and was the first one to run it. The philosophy the ruleset was designed by, was that if a trick would make the category boring it wouldn't be allowed. Since that has proven to make for an interesting concept to run the few runners who would complete runs after him simply accepted these rules.

Prerequisites
To finish this run, you need to know how to:
*Mockball
*Infinite bomb jump
*Traverse all of Norfair without any Suits.
*Move out of Bounds.
*X-Ray-climb into Tourian.
*"Escape" the Zebes escape sequence and stop the escape timer.
*Getting past Botwoon without killing him.
*Traversing all of Maridia without Gravity Suit (and Grapple Beam)

Route
Similar to RBO there are a lot of options to route this category. Most of the route divergence will come from getting extra safety items and getting them at an earlier point in the run. Most notable safetys are an early detour to Maridia or a detour to obtain Grapple Beam. Both these options make the run a lot easier but also make the run significantly longer (not in relation to the total length of the run but enough that a run with high movement optimization and both extra safeties would still be slower than a less optimized run with none of the safeties).

The route described below is a route that takes none of the safeties and opts to get to start the Bossrush as quickly as possible with almost no item collection after Mother Brain has been defeated.

*Standard route up till Green Brinstar. Note that one should use missiles to kill the pirates post Terminator Room rather than damaging through to maintain health.
*Get Early Supers as well as the Brinstar Reservetank, continue to Charge Beam.
*Exit Green Brinstar into Red Tower and go up. Farm health in Hellway till your reserve tank is filled up completely.
*Obtain Alpha- and Beta-Powerbombs go up the Elevator, open the yellow doorshells connecting the Elevator room to the Crateria Keyhunter Room from both sides and go down the elevator again. This might seem random and unimportant but note that this door will have to be traversed during the Escape escape (where you wont have any ammo), so you will have to rely on the crab drop rng and also waste additional time laying the powerbomb in an already tight sequence.
*Get Spazer, the E-Tank at Hi-Jump Boots and Hi-Jump Boots themselves.
*Perform a hellrun to Bubble Mountain and consecutive Hellruns to Speed Booster and Wave Beam with farming at Bat Cave
*Exit Bubble Mountain farm up your life at the Upper Norfair Farming Room and do a last hellrun to Ice Beam
*Leave Norfair, if needed refill your health at the bottom of Red Tower and obtain the X-Ray Scope by damage-boosting across the spikes of the Pre X-Ray Room
*Get Retro Brinstar Powerbombs and the Retro Brinstar Etank.
*Go up the elevator to Crateria, collect Crateria Super Missiles, Crateria Powerbombs and the Gauntlet E-Tank.
*Exit Crateria to Brinstar and get all remaining Brinstar E-Tanks aswell as Spore Spawn Super Missiles and Pink Brinstar Powerbombs.
*Now after having visited Big Pink go to the G4 Statue and perform and perform an OoB setup to get into Tourian.
*Beat Tourian and Mother Brain and Escape the Escape sequence with an OoB warp to Crateria Tube and then save and reset at the Red Brinstar Savestation.
*Perform a lavadive to get into Lower Norfair and get Screw Attack continue on like in Normal RBO up till the Lower Norfair Farming Room unless you got Grapple Beam you want to Crystal Flash right before the Ridley fight and kill Ridley with your charge shots.
*Escape Lower Norfair, farm up for 2 more Crystal Flashes and reenter Lower Norfair to kill Golden Torizo.
*Enter Maridia and Wrongwarp past Botwoon.
*Get past Colosseum with Damage Boosts across the spikes and freezing Mocktroids as platforms.
*Kill Draygon and escape The Precious Room with Xray climbing.
*Kill Phantoon, Crocomire, Kraid and Sporespawn (This part is pretty self explanatory. Just take the fastest path and just never visit the Zebes escape area.)
*Go to Landing Site since the event flag for the escape was never unset you can just end the game by entering your ship.

Route variations
Early Maridia
An option to make the Tourian and Lower Norfair section a lot easier is to do an early Maridia visit before going to Tourian (it can also be done after Tourian but the benefit would be far less). Here one would acquire Crab Supers, Beach Supers and Mama Turtle E-Tank. Note that this can be done completely inbounds however since Wrongwarps are allowed and Grapple may not be acquired it is easier and faster to wrongwarp to Maridia Beach rather than getting there inbounds.

Grapple Beam Acquisition
The player has the option to obtain Grapple Beam without killing Crocomire and thus giving the player the option to have Grapple Beam for both suitless Lower Norfair and suitless Maridia. Making those sections considerably more easy and way less punishing. One of the biggest benefits is arguably the fact that one cannot softlock in Colosseum if Grapple Beam is obtained.
However skipping Crocomire and getting back out can be difficult but with a good setup it can be done consistently.

Description
The puzzle category is a unique Super Metroid category that requires the player to reach a particular goal within the game, according to certain rules and restrictions along the way.

A puzzle is conceived and proven by a single player. From there, that puzzle is introduced in a race on SpeedRunsLive, where the competitors will not be able to view the details of the puzzle until the race starts. The author of the puzzle is typically the host of the race, unless the author asks someone else to host on their behalf.

Puzzles tend to be challenging since it will require the player to perform a task they have never done before. It is not uncommon for puzzles to require the use of glitches not used in other runs. Because of this, many puzzles are not recommended for beginner players, or even intermediate players, since the scope of knowledge required normally goes beyond what a newer speedrunner to Super Metroid would know. Even a more advanced runner may not be able to complete a puzzle if the breadth of their knowledge about the game is weak.

Puzzles generally allow for any glitch in the game to be utilized unless the rules of the puzzle specifically state otherwise. Keep in mind that these puzzles are (usually) designed based on NTSC and that some things that are possible in PAL (and not NTSC) may change the solution to the puzzle. Because of this, the use of NTSC is recommended but not required.

The links underneath the "Date Released" column are the original SRL races of the respective puzzle. If a puzzle's description does not contain a link, then it means either everyone attempting the puzzle was not able to complete it and forfeited, or the link to its race could not be located otherwise.

Occasionally there have been other challenges that were either not considered to be a puzzle or were never raced on SRL. These challenges/puzzles are listed with the other puzzle races but are not a part of the currently numbered Super Metroid puzzle races.

How to Make a Puzzle
If you'd like to make your own puzzle, you may. Anyone is allowed to make a puzzle, all you need is a unique idea and an image for you puzzle. Over the years, people making puzzles have had some trouble with some words. Some would interpret the words one way and others another. So to combat this issue, here is a dictionary for terms and what they mean for the purpose of Super Metroid puzzles (after #49).

The last Any% World Record to use the KPDR boss order was Zoast's 44:08, achieved on August 23, 2014. Five days later on August 28, 2014, Behemoth posted the first PRKD World Record of 43:48, and the World Records have used that boss order since.
Some runners still aim to optimize KPDR as a subcategory though, and that's what is documented here.
In almost all cases other than World Records, the date given will be for the Twitch Highlight, since finding the original recording date is difficult.

}}

RBO is the category with the most route variations. The one you will want to use depends on how safe you wish to be, and/or how fast you are capable of being in a run.

Routes and Methods
When running RBO, there are many considerations to make for which route you want to use. The route used typically depends on the runner's skill level and preference. This section drives to outline many of the route choices available to the runner.

Double Norfair Visit
Double Norfair Visit route has classically been the RBO route. This route involves the runner visiting Norfair twice throughout the entire run. Typically the runner collects the Brinstar Reserve Tank and at least 2 Energy Tanks and immediately heading to Norfair to do an early hell run through Norfair, collecting Speed Booster, Wave Beam, Power Bombs, and Grapple Beam. After this the runner backtracks to Brinstar and Crateria for more item collection before returning to Norfair for a second time and heading to Lower Norfair to fight Ridley.

Advantages to Double Norfair Visit Route
* Allows collection of Crateria Super Missiles
* Allows collection of Big Pink Water Energy Tank
* Allows early Maridia route

Disadvantages to Double Norfair Visit Route
* Requires an early hell run, which is easy to die in
* Route is overall slower than a Single Norfair Visit

Single Norfair Visit
Single Norfair Visit route involves the runner collecting all the needed powerups in Crateria and Brinstar before ever entering Norfair. This route requires picking up early powerbombs, whether it is Red Tower powerbombs or etecoons powerbombs (via moondance), and collecting many powerups without usual items. The Big Pink E-Tank gate needs to be opened with the Super Missile trick since the runner doesn't have wave beam, Gauntlet can't be cleared with Speed Booster, and other differences.

This route is typically considered a more advanced route as you have a much lower ammo count going into Ridley and aren't able to pick up as many Energy Tanks either.

There were two variants of this route: (1) continuing up the Red Tower Elevator after collecting Power Bombs, looping back through Gauntlet and the rest of the Brinstar powerups; or (2) Doing Gauntlet immediately after picking up Bombs, and then backtracking through Brinstar for item collection after picking up Red Tower powerbombs. From research both routes are roughly identical in time.

However, there are more efficient variants of single Norfair visit, such as: replacing the Gauntlet Energy Tank with the Norfair Reserve Tank, or not getting either tank and go into Lower Norfair with only 7 tanks (6 energy tanks and 1 reserve tank); and doing moondance to get access to the etecoons area without powerbombs to get powerbombs earlier.

A newbie to the category simply looking to complete a run could do this route, then go back to collect the Crateria Supers, Big Pink Water Tank, and do early Maridia after collecting Norfair items. This route would technically be a Double Norfair visit, but leverages the advantages of both Norfair visit routes at a large cost of time.

Advantages to Single Norfair Visit Route
* Provides ample energy tanks for the regular Norfair hell run to pick up Speed Booster, Wave Beam, and Grapple Beam
* Route is overall faster than a Double Norfair Visit

Disadvantages to Single Norfair Visit Route
* Crateria Super Missiles and Big Pink Water Energy Tank can't be collected
* Does not allow for Early Maridia

Early Maridia
An option new runners to RBO typically want to take is to visit Maridia early on in the run (before killing Ridley) and collect Super Missiles and Energy Tanks there. A runner could potentially collect as many as two extra Energy Tanks and two extra Super Missile powerups, making the rest of the run much more comfortable to complete. Typically, only the Mama Turtle E-Tank and Crab Supers are collected. The runner could go further into Maridia and collect the other Supers at the top of Maridia, and the E-Tank after Botwoon.

Advantages to Early Maridia
* Allows the collection of up to two more E-Tanks
* Allows the collection of up to two (or three) more Super Missile powerups

Disadvantages to Early Maridia
* Requires Ice Beam (and preferably wave beam) and maybe Grapple Beam to do
* Consumes a large amount of time

Screw Attack/Golden Torizo Skip
Another option the runner has in order to save time is to skip Golden Torizo, or both him and Screw Attack altogether.

Fighting Golden Torizo typically involves farming Super ammo back to full and picking up Screw Attack before going into the fight. The only reason to fight GT is to collect the Super Missile powerup in the room.

Advantages to skipping Golden Torizo
* Saves time to not have to perform the fight
* Doesn't require refilling Super Ammo needed for the fight

Disadvantages to skipping Golden Torizo
* Missing collection of a Super Missile powerup
* Missing out on opportunity to collect power bombs from drops

Additionally, the runner can skip going to the left altogether and skip both Golden Torizo and Screw Attack. While this saves a great deal of time, the runner is missing out on the helpfulness of Screw Attack and a Super Missile powerup. Skipping both Screw Attack and Golden Torizo should be considered an extremely advanced move and is recommended as one of the last route changes made in order to save time.

Advantages to skipping Screw Attack/Golden Torizo
* Saves a huge amount of time
* Don't have to deal with the Green Gate Glitch

Disadvantages to skipping Screw Attack/Golden Torizo
* Loses Screw Attack, making the LN Escape much more perilous
* Missing collection of a Super Missile powerup
* Missing out on opportunity to collect power bombs from drops
* Missing out on opportunity to fill up Supers

Sloaters27: /* Puzzles */

The route listed below is the standard "early Crocomire" route.

The record listed above uses a different and more optimal "late Crocomire" route, which requires freezing a Puyo to clip into Shaktool's chamber, due to the lack of Grapple Beam, to access Spring Ball. This route saves upwards of 20 seconds over the route listed below, but will lose this time if the clip to Spring Ball is missed multiple times, so it is not recommended to players unless they are able to perform this clip consistently. Additionally, due to delaying Crocomire, this route will leave the player with one less Energy Tank and Power Bomb expansion for Wrecked Ship than the route below, making traversing and surviving the area slightly more difficult in comparison.

Additionally, there is a route deviation that involves acquiring Power Bombs before Kraid's Lair to acquire the Missile pack from the area during the initial visit rather than having to revisit Kraid's Lair later for it.
