From A complete guide to Super Metroid speedrunning
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a pro/con list for moving our leaderboards from DeerTier (DT) to SpeedRun.com (SRC). Feel free to make an account and edit, but please do so seriously. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the discord after checking the FAQ.

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: For organizational purposes, we ask that you format each pro/con properly. Start by finding the section where you are going to add your pro/con and go to the very last entry, add a new line (enter/return key), and then put an asterisk (*). After typing your pro/con (hopefully in proper english), preview the page to make sure it looks alright and then save it.

Pros

  • It will bring the SM community closer to the rest of the speedrunning community.
  • Runs can be sorted by type (NTSC vs PAL, SNES vs EMU vs VC, KRPD vs PRKD, IGT vs RTA)
  • Users will have profiles (Links to Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, other runs, nationality)
  • The SM Community is able to update and control who moderates the leaderboards, rather than a single person.
  • Supports a verification process to prevent trolls/fakes if we want that.
  • Speedrun.com has integrated forums, statistics, and guides/resources
  • It's difficult to change things about Deer Tier - Speedrun.com is easily edited.
  • Super Metroid would actually show up on the game list for LiveSplit.
  • Rom hack leaderboards are already hosted on Speedrun.com.
  • Speedrun.com leaderboards page can be customized to look very much like deertier
  • It has an API, which makes this an actual speedrunning database as opposed to "just" a website. This also means that tools from the rest of the speedrunning community can be used which is obviously not possible with deertier.
  • People may find our leaderboards more easily.
  • Through a third party website (splits.io), you can submit your pb with splits and those will be shown bellow the video.

Cons

  • It may be a troublesome task to switch over.
  • Deertier has lots of nostalgia and a pleasing aesthetic.
  • Speedrun.com doesn't run well on low-end mobile devices.
  • We might end up with two separate leaderboards with times all over the place.
  • Deertier is community supported (by MrLandmaster) and never has ads.
  • Speedrun.com's search feature is confusing.
