Maybe some puzzles should have vague descriptions for potential participants to decide beforehand if the puzzle is for them. The following characteristics seem important, quantifiable, and not too revealing:

  • How long did it take a puzzle maker to run the puzzle -- specified in absolute time and runner name, or relative to other categories (ie between any% and 100% time, 1-2 times as long as 14% ice, about as long as SSRTA, etc)
  • If you make a bad decision, do you have to reset -- specified as yes or no
  • Required tricks -- specified as which categories you need to be familiar with to be able to complete

Regarding required tricks: as a puzzle maker, if you commit to divulging this up front, it might motivate you to create puzzles with multiple solutions. A participant isn't required to perform a certain trick, but if they do, they can complete the puzzle faster.
