The glass tube can be destroyed with a Power Bomb, but the glass will not shatter until Samus jumps, shoots, or changes her item selection. Without Gravity Suit, you can set up a Gravity Jump-like effect with this event.
If you fire a shot to break the glass on the same frame you hit the door transition, the game will freeze upon entering the next room.
