It is possible to cancel the "damage knockback" animation if Samus is in an uninterruptible animation when coming in contact with the source of damage.

Kagoing is the term used for performing an uninterruptible animation to pass through enemies without experiencing a knockback or damage boost. This technique can also be used to pass through some moving platforms such as the yellow platforms in Double Chamber and the Kzans (triple-spiked platforms) in Wasteland as they are classified as enemies.

Kagoing is named after the Kago enemy, which it was first performed on.
